Convergence

Convergence:

Digital Convergence is the combination of 2 or more different technologies in a single device to perform similar tasks. The SmartPhone (BlackBox) is a key example of digital convergence as it allows communication, access to information and photography.

The Advantages:

Saves money:
  • To buy a phone, a camera, a stereo, a gaming console and a computer would cost so much money. Combining all into one means that you only need to buy one and it saves you money.
Saves Lives:
  • Digital Convergence allows for the access to medical knowledge faster than it takes for an emergency service to arrive in a crisis.
Saves Time:
  • Digital Convergence gives you the ability to multitask, and get more things done at once. It's only one device to carry around so it tends to be more convenient.

The Disadvantages:

Eats Time:
  • Contradictory to saves time. This instant access to cool things leads to addiction and people's focus tends to be on their devices instead of work.
Eats Relationships:
  • As well as neglecting our responsibilities for our devices, we tend to also neglect our family and friends.
Eats time at home:
  • Increased mobility by devices allows us to bring work back home, meaning that there is no longer a seperation from work life and family life.

What is convergence?
